House for Cinzia and Ray

London, UK

2019

A house sited within an East London conservation area required the careful rethinking of the rear elevation and its relationship with the tree and plant-filled garden beyond.

The studio focused on creating a view out to the garden from the front door - previously out of sight from within any part of the house. This view then unfolds as you move through the house, eventually entering the new light-filled extension where a view to the sky is also offered. This generous space finally leads seamlessly out onto a new terrace.

The proposals sought to create a gathering space for the family, offering them something different, yet complimentary, to the existing arrangement of modest sized, formal rooms - a place to feel comfortable whether taking a moment alone or hosting friends.
