House for Tan and Ben
A suburban house in East London is being developed for a family increasingly requiring distinct spaces for independent activity, whilst also seeking a better quality of space for them to come together as a household and to host guests.
The existing building is a mid-twentieth century, semi-detached house clad with roughcast and fine brick detailing. The house has a flower and tree-filled garden to the rear.
The studio's response was to intensify the experience of each family member's own private room alongside the shaping of a large gathering space at the ground floor, focused around the kitchen and living room, and unfolding into the garden beyond.
