Studio Benjamin Machin is an architecture practice working on homes, housing and public buildings. The studio is interested in projects where early architectural thinking matters and where there is a close relationship between building and place. Most work involves the adaptation of existing buildings, although the practice is equally interested in new houses and public or community buildings.

The studio is small by design, working throughout the United Kingdom and occasionally abroad, with Benjamin leading the design and management of every project directly.

Design begins by looking carefully at what is already there: the ground, the street, traces of use and the accumulated life of a building. These ordinary things carry meaning and are taken seriously. Work develops through observation, drawing and close involvement during design and construction, seeking solutions that feel inevitable rather than imposed.
